In cities such as London, where time does not stand still, it may seem paradoxical to escape into a world of calm, where a hierarchical structure is paramount for its survival and where worker bees change their duties as their age increases. Social ties hold the bees in the hive together, there is a clear division of labour in the hive, which has worked impeccably for millions of years without human interference. Natural and sustainable beekeepers are more concerned with the survival of their bees than the productio of honey, so any time and work spent with them is seen as a means of relaxation for the beekeeper as the bees often tend to be kept with a less interventionist approach, the beekeeper thus being content to let mother nature run her course. The emphasis therefore is less on production and more on just enjoying the bees and the beekeeping for their own sake. If this sounds like you, then natural and sustainble beekeeping is for you.
